Trulli Valley

Itria Valley

Also known as the Valley of Trulli, is a valley between Bari, Brindisi and Taranto dotted with Trulli, typical cone-shaped stone houses. In addition to Ostuni some of the most beautiful places to visit in Valle d'Itria are Alberobello, Locorotondo, Costernino and Martina Franca.

It is a land of ancient traditions strongly connected to the natural environment, which is reflected in the local enogastronomy.
The landscape is characterized by expanses of olive trees as far as the eye can see, almond trees, vineyards and orchards in which stand out the farms, still inhabited and often converted into tourist facilities.

History and Archaeology

In Itria Valley there are two unique archaeological sites: Santa Maria di Agnano in Ostuni and the Archaeological Park of Egnatia in Fasano.
The most important archaeological find of the Archaeological Park of Santa Maria di Agnano is the Pregnant Woman, dated about 28,000 years ago, now preserved in the Museum of Preclassic Civilizations of the Southern Murgia in Ostuni.

In Fasano, in Savelletri, instead, there is the ancient city of Egnazia. Here it is possible to visit the western necropolis, the National Museum and the Roman city which tell the multi-millennial history of a city alive since the Bronze Age and rich in extraordinary finds of the Messapian and Roman periods.
